One Community Helping Each Other

Firstly, I’d like to ‘Thank You’ for visiting this page and for supporting me for my planned trek in the Sahara desert in February 2012.

As you will probably already know, this is in aid of an important local charity in the Newark area called Beaumond House Community Hospice. Beaumond House are organising this trek to celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2012. I am doing my bit by supporting the charity and I hope that you will help me not only reach but exceed my fundraising target

And, we want you to have a lot of fun in the process!

Beaumond House was started 25 years ago through a public meeting that cost £50. Today they need about £500,000 a year through donations in order to provide the important palliative care and respite within the local community. This is why we are doing things a little differently. The vision behind www.saharatrek.co.uk is that the community as a whole is doing something to help each other. Hence “One Community Helping Each Other”.

What do I mean by that?

Basically, as a trekker I am doing my bit to support Beaumond House by finding lots of interesting ways to raise more money. In turn, we are arranging sponsorship from local businesses and are helping promote their business, either through the site or through local events, or both. If you are reading this page because you are a friend, family member or work colleague, I ask that you not only support me through “Just Giving”, but also by supporting those businesses that are helping me raise more money for Beaumond House.

So please take the opportunity to see which companies are sponsoring me and also to visit the Business Directory where all the companies supporting trekkers are featured. Each of them is helping make a massive contribution to the community, without which this event would not be possible. A number of these businesses can be found in the town centre – please go and say ‘Thank You’ for helping the trekkers. Equally, where these companies provide services to the community – ask them for a quotation and considering using them next time.

I mentioned that we’ll be organising fundraising events. As a result we have created a Events Calendar that will feature between now and March 2012 all sorts of interesting daytime and evening events to appeal to families and friends locally. Every one of these events is important and your support, even if just a few pounds really will make a difference.
