The Google Monster

A website that most of use on a daily, or even an hourly basis is under attack from the government for being a monopoly. I remember the years before I discovered Google.com. Almost every one was using the heavily advertised search engine called ask.com. The internet of those days was not nearly so user friendly, but now we have the big googley Os of Google.com to greet us on our homepage, and we dont need other search engines, all we need is our Google-fu.

The Department of Justice is accusing Google of being a bully on the technological playground, because it wont let the other kids play. However is Google at fault? They became so popular, because they streamlined the internet. Their search engine created not only accessibility to those not accustomed to searches, but also usability to those who were used to getting the same five results on other search engines. Once I met Google, I dumped ask.com. To this day, ask.com and other search engines cannot live up to the grandeur that is Google.

The DOJ is painting Google like the big bad wolf because they made sound business decisions, and have created their own empire. What about Ebay who is buying up my favorite websites all over the internet and trying to make me pay for them? Or Yahoo who has their fingers in pies that Google is lagging behind in, like photo sharing. Googles Picasa isnt as easy to use as Yahoos Flickr. Google has been a beacon of hilarity and good will in the often dark and grimy world of the internet. They often change their logo for holidays and birthdays, hardly ever missing a milestone. They even offer a safety filter for the searches you do. Dont want to see breasts while you search for chicken breast recipes? No problem!

Now, I am not saying Google isnt headed towards being a monopoly. That is for brains more financially minded than mine to determine, but I am saying that just because Google is realizing success in an open market doesnt make them a bully.
